Manuscript Preparation And Formatting

  1. Manuscript Text File

Submit all components of the manuscript including the main text, references, figure legends, and tables in a single, double-spaced digital file (preferably in MS Word format). We also accept text (.txt) and Rich Text Format (.rtf) files.

 

  1. Title Page

The title page must include:

  • Manuscript title
  • Full name, highest degree(s), and institutional affiliation of each author
  • Complete contact details of the corresponding author (email, phone, and institutional address)

 

  1. Abstract

Provide an abstract of no more than 250 words, structured into four clearly labeled sections:

  • Background: The problem or question addressed
  • Methods: Study design and methodology
  • Results: Key findings
  • Conclusions: Main interpretations and implications of the findings
  • Trial registration number, where applicable

 

  1. Identifying and Ethical Data

Include the following statements within the manuscript, where appropriate:

  • Confirmation that the study received ethical approval from the relevant institutional review board or ethics committee
  • A statement that written informed consent was obtained from all human participants, when applicable
  • Identification of individuals or teams responsible for data analysis
  • For clinical trials: registration number and registry name
  • For studies involving microarray data: accession numbers and repository information

 

  1. References

References must be:

  • Double-spaced
  • Numbered consecutively in the order they appear in the text
  • Numbered according to first appearance in text, figure legend, or table
  • For up to six authors, list all names; for seven or more, list the first three followed by et al.

Notes:

  • Personal communications, unpublished data, and manuscripts “submitted” or “in preparation” should not be numbered as references.
  • Such material, if essential, may be cited within the text.

 

  1. Tables
  • Place all tables at the end of the manuscript file
  • Use double spacing, including table titles and footnotes
  • Provide a brief, descriptive title for each table
  • For Original Research Articles: a combined limit of five figures and tables
  • Extensive data may be included in the Supplementary Appendix

 

  1. Figures, Illustrations, and Multimedia
  • Authors may either insert figures directly within the manuscript file (preferred)
  • Low-resolution images are acceptable for the initial submission
  • Refer to our Technical Guidelines for Figures and Multimedia for detailed specifications on image formats, resolution, and size

Accepted Figure Types

  • Data visualizations (bar charts, line graphs, scatter plots, survival curves, box plots, forest plots, etc.):
    Please submit editable vector files (e.g., .ai, .eps, .svg)
  • Medical illustrations:
    Our editorial and design team will assist in producing final illustrations. To avoid copyright concerns, please submit simple sketches or basic conceptual diagrams, along with clear figure legends or descriptions of instructional purpose.

 

  1. Supplementary Appendix

A Supplementary Appendix must be:

  • Paginated
  • Include a table of contents
  • Organized in the following order:
    1. List of investigators (if applicable)
    2. Supplementary text (e.g., expanded methods)
    3. Supplementary figures
    4. Supplementary tables
    5. Supplementary references

Submit the Appendix in both PDF and an editable format (Word or RTF). It will be published online exactly as submitted, without copyediting.

 

  1. Supplementary Figures and Tables
  • Include complete and informative legends, titles, and footnotes
  • Scales must include details such as range, direction of scoring, and minimal clinically important difference (if known)
  • Label supplementary tables as Table S1, Table S2, etc.
  • Label supplementary figures similarly (e.g., Figure S1, Figure S2)

 

  1. Trial Protocol and Statistical Analysis Plan (SAP)

When requested, authors must provide:

  • The complete trial protocol
  • The statistical analysis plan (SAP)

These documents must not be redacted, except for removal of signatures and personal contact information. Proprietary details may be redacted after acceptance. Protocols published with accepted articles must include patient flow and outcome details.
