Anti plagiarism policy

Jana Nexus: Journal of Health and Medicine maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward plagiarism and is committed to ensuring the originality, integrity, and ethical quality of all published content. Plagiarism in any form constitutes serious academic misconduct and is unacceptable.

Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism is defined as the use of another person’s ideas, text, data, images, or results without proper acknowledgment. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Direct plagiarism: Verbatim copying without quotation or citation
  • Self-plagiarism: Reuse of one’s own previously published work without disclosure
  • Mosaic plagiarism: Mixing copied phrases with original text
  • Paraphrasing plagiarism: Rewriting others’ work with minimal changes and no citation
  • Data or image plagiarism: Unauthorized reuse or manipulation of tables, figures, or datasets

Acceptable Similarity and Screening

  • All submitted manuscripts are screened using plagiarism detection software before peer review.
  • Similarity reports are evaluated qualitatively, not only by percentage.
  • Acceptable similarity generally should not exceed 10–15%, excluding references, standard methods, and properly quoted text.
  • Manuscripts with excessive or unethical similarity will be rejected or returned for clarification.

Self-Plagiarism and Redundant Publication

Authors must disclose any prior publication, preprint, thesis, or conference presentation related to the submitted work. Redundant or duplicate publication without proper citation or justification is considered unethical and may lead to rejection or retraction.

Plagiarism in Review and Post-Publication Stages

  • If plagiarism is detected before publication, the manuscript will be rejected and authors may be barred from future submissions for a defined period.
  • If plagiarism is detected after publication, the journal will issue a correction, expression of concern, or retraction, depending on severity.
  • Authors’ institutions and funding agencies may be notified in cases of serious misconduct.

Responsibilities of Authors

  • Ensure submissions are original and properly cited
  • Obtain permission for copyrighted material
  • Accurately reference all sources, including AI-assisted tools where applicable
  • Retain original data and drafts for verification if required

Responsibilities of Editors and Reviewers

  • Editors and reviewers are expected to report suspected plagiarism
  • Reviewers must not use or share unpublished material
  • All allegations are handled confidentially and fairly following established ethical guidelines

Appeals and Clarifications

Authors may respond to plagiarism allegations with a written explanation. Appeals will be reviewed by the editorial board, and decisions made by the Editor-in-Chief are final.

Policy Review

This plagiarism policy is regularly reviewed and updated to reflect evolving standards in scholarly publishing and ethical research practice.
