Jana Nexus: Journal of Health and Medicine is committed to ensuring transparency, integrity, and trust in scholarly publishing. A conflict of interest (COI) exists when professional judgment concerning a primary interest (such as research validity or patient welfare) may be influenced by a secondary interest (such as financial gain or personal relationships).
Scope of the Policy
This policy applies to authors, reviewers, editors, and editorial staff involved in the submission, review, and publication of manuscripts.
Types of Conflicts of Interest
Conflicts of interest may be financial or non-financial, including but not limited to:
- Employment, consultancies, honoraria, or paid expert testimony
- Research funding, grants, or sponsorship
- Stock ownership or equity interests
- Patents, copyrights, or royalties
- Personal, professional, or institutional relationships
- Academic competition or intellectual beliefs that may influence judgment
Author Responsibilities
- All authors must declare any potential conflicts of interest at the time of submission.
- If no conflicts exist, authors must explicitly state:
“The authors declare no conflict of interest.”
- Funding sources and the role of the funder in study design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, and publication decisions must be clearly disclosed.
Reviewer Responsibilities
- Reviewers must disclose any conflicts of interest before accepting a review assignment.
- Reviewers with conflicts must decline the review.
- Reviewers must not use unpublished information for personal or professional advantage.
Editor and Editorial Board Responsibilities
- Editors and editorial board members must disclose conflicts of interest related to manuscripts they handle.
- Editors with conflicts must recuse themselves from the editorial decision-making process.
- Editorial decisions must not be influenced by commercial, financial, or personal considerations.
Management of Conflicts
- Declared conflicts are evaluated by the editorial team.
- When necessary, additional reviewers or editors may be assigned.
- All relevant conflict of interest disclosures will be published with the article.
Failure to Disclose
- Failure to disclose a conflict of interest may result in manuscript rejection, retraction, or publication of a correction.
- Serious cases may be reported to authors’ institutions or funding agencies.
Confidentiality
Conflict of interest disclosures are handled confidentially during the review process and disclosed publicly only as part of the published article when relevant.
Policy Review
This policy is periodically reviewed and updated to reflect changes in ethical publishing standards and best practices.
